Our story
Aunty Lou's Kitchen is a Kai Box/Kai Provisioning Service inspired through watching my mum growing up from an early age. She was always there for whoever needed her, whenever they needed her. She cooked and cared for us, but also her community, Māori and non-Māori alike. Our kitchen table was her ‘consulting-couch’. Her skillet her stethoscope and her kai and korero her medicine, advising, counselling and cooking for anyone who had troubles to overcome or just needed some Kai and a hug (or sometimes a telling-off). There was never any shortage of Kai, Aroha, Manaaki & Te Reo Māori.
While she was my mum, she was known to everyone else as Aunty Lou.
As the Covid 19 pandemic evolved in 2020, we put our thinking caps on...... and wondered how mum would have served her community, her people and Aunty Lou’s Kitchen was born.
Today ‘Aunty Lou’ and her expression of Manaaki and Aroha for all, through her cooking through her Kai and through her Korero lives on, through her son and daughter-in-law Joseph & Kylie and her mokopuna Milan and Kees who help pack the boxes and sometimes, in the trucks running the Kai boxes to the door.
